My Newsfeed is empty

Please select what type of server you are connected to

I am using Office 365

The Newsfeed on My Sites is enabled by default in SharePoint Online, but you can disable the Newsfeed if your organization does not want to use it. If someone has disabled the Newsfeed and your organization later decides to enable it, you can enable it by selecting a single check box.

  1. On the SharePoint Online Administration Center Home page, click Manage User Profiles.
  2. On the Manage User Profiles page, under My Site Settings, click Setup My Sites.
  3. In the Newsfeed section, select the Enable newsfeed on My Sites check box.
  4. Click OK.

I am using SharePoint 2010

Activity Feed is off by default in a User Profile Service Application. To turn on this feature, a member of the Farm Administrators group must configure the User Profile service Activity Feed timer job.

  1. On the Central Administration Web site, on the Quick Launch, click Monitoring.
  2. In the Timer Jobs section, click Review job definitions.
  3. Click User Profile Service – Activity Feed Job in the list of timer jobs.
  4. On the Edit Timer Job page, click Enable.

I am using SharePoint 2010 with Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Activity Feed is off by default in a User Profile Service Application. To turn on this feature, a member of the Farm Administrators group must configure the User Profile service.

  1. On the Central Administration Web site, on the Quick Launch, click Manage Service Applications.
  2. Click User Profile Service Application in the list of service applications.
  3. In the My Site Settings section, click Setup My Sites.
  4. In the Newsfeed section, select the Enable newsfeed on My Sites check box.
  5. Click OK.

I want My Newsfeed to be refreshed more frequently

Activity Feed is executed hourly by default in a User Profile Service Application. It can be configured to run more frequently.

  1. On the Central Administration Web site, on the Quick Launch, click Monitoring.
  2. In the Timer Jobs section, click Review job definitions.
  3. Click User Profile Service – Activity Feed Job in the list of timer jobs.
  4. On the Edit Timer Job page, change Recurring Schedule from Hourly to Minutes.
  5. Set desired interval, Every 5 minutes.
  6. Click OK.

I see an error "The User Profile Manager object could not be loaded"

Make sure your web application is associated with the User Profile Service Application.

  1. On the Central Administration Web site, in the Application Management section, click Manage web applications.
  2. Select the web application and click on Service Connections in the ribbon.
  3. Make sure the checkbox next to User Profile Service Application is checked.
  4. Click OK.
